17 New Hotels in Moscow in 2011

Accordingly to  the  report  of  NAI BECAR company 17 new hotels  will be open in Moscow  in 2011 (with total capacity of about 3,500 rooms).

50 years of Cosmos exploring 

In 2011 Russia will celebrate the 50th anniversary of first flight in cosmos.  This significant event will be marked by Moscow Museum of Cosmonautics recent re-opening.

The Museum of Cosmonautics was built in 1964 in Moscow to commemorate the launch of Sputnik twenty years earlier and to celebrate the achievements of Soviet Russia in astronautics.  The museum is housed in the base of the highly impressive ‘Conquerors of Space’ monument, an enormous silver rocket soaring into the sky on a 328 feet stream of glistening Titanium.  The depictions of constellations and atmospheric lighting (or lack of it) help recreate an aura of outer space. 

Russia’s first Four Seasons hotel opens in St. Petersburg in 2011.  According to an announcement of the founder of an international network, Mr. Isador Sharp, the hotel will be located in the famous architectural monument ‘The House with the Lions’, on St. Isaac’s Square.  Since 2004, the building is being reconstructed and restored by the Russian developer company Tristar Investment Holdings.  Four Seasons Hotel Lion Palace will offer 183 rooms (132 standard rooms, 18 standard with two bedrooms, 16 executive suite rooms, 3 suites with one bedroom, 6 two bedroom apartments), also there will be huge Presidential apartments of 2,690+ square feet, with 2 bedrooms, a lounge, a dining room for 14 persons, a room and terrace overlooking the Admiralty Avenue.

Erarta, the biggest Russian non-governmental Museum of Modern Art was opened at Vasilievsky Island in St Petersburg at the end of 2010 year.

Its task is to collect, exhibit, and popularize most ingenious and skillful works by contemporary artists.  The collection of the museum consists of about 2,000 works by modern artists including graphics, sculpture, installations and other types of modern fine arts – the earliest exhibits in the collection date back to the 1950s.

According to the goals declared, the museum deals with exhibition projects, publishes its periodical catalogue, organizes excursions and conducts educational programs.  

The Director of museum, Mr Michail Ovchinnikov, has announced that one of the major tasks is to promote contemporary Russian art, but in the future there are plans to cooperate with foreign artists as well.

The Bosphorus is the waterway between the two continents of Turkey, the European part, known as Rumelia or and the Asian part known as Anatolia

The Bosphorus is the narrowest strait used for international navigation in the world, in some parts its width is just 700 metres, it is still unknown how it was originally formed.  The strait connects the Black Sea with the Sea of Marmara and the Mediterranean.  There are two bridges to cross from side to side; these are the Bosphorus Bridge and the Faith Sultan Mehmet Bridge, also known as Bosphorus II.  Throughout history the Bosphorus has been the centre of many hostilities, in Greek mythology, throughout the Ottoman Turk reign, the Russo-Turkish War (1877 – 1878) and throughout the First World War.  Currently it is a vital tool in the oil industry, used to move oil from Russia to Western Europe and the United States.

A boat cruise on the Bosphorus is a must do when visiting Istanbul because it is a wonderful opportunity to observe both sides of Istanbul. WHIRLING DERVISHES – THE SEMA RITUAL – OTTOMAN NIGHT SHOW

The Whirling Dervishes of Turkey perform the spellbinding and mesmerizing sema ritual of spiritual rebirth.

This religious dance dates back to the 13th century when the poet Jalaluddin Rumi, a towering figure of Sufism, created it as a means of ‘spinning off’ worldly diversion to find oneness with the Divine.

One of the world’s most beautiful spiritual ceremonies, the sema is a meditation in motion.

GRAND BAZAAR

The Grand Bazaar (or Covered Bazaar) in Istanbul is one of the largest covered markets in the world with more than 58 streets and 4,000 shops and has between 250,000 and 400,000 visitors daily.

It is well known for its jewelry, pottery, spice, and carpet shops. Many of the stalls in the bazaar are grouped by type of goods, with special areas for leather coats and gold jewelry.

There are thousands of things  you can find and purchase in the Grand Bazaar.

SPICE (EGYPTIAN) BAZAAR

The Spice Bazaar, (Egyptian Bazaar) in Istanbul, is one of the oldest bazaars in the city.

Located in Eminonu, it is the second largest covered shopping complex after the Grand Bazaar.

There are different accounts regarding the origin of the name of the bazaar.  Various spices from the Orient were offered here in the past. Egyptian Bazaar was so named because the spices used to be imported from Egypt. On the other hand, in the Byzantine period, the site of the Spice Bazaar was the center of corn trade.  The word ‘mısır’ has a double meaning in Turkish: “Egypt” and “corn”.

Sultanahmet district is the heart of historic Old Istanbul, what 19th-century travelers used to call “Stamboul.”
